Heartbeat: Ferocious Heart
October 15 - 17, 2010
Antwerp, Belgium
Anger defines our boundaries, motivates us, and spurs us into action. It lets us know when we have been hurt and when we are in danger. It is the physical and emotional energy that protects what we hold dear - and without it, we are sunk. Yet, we are rarely encouraged to feel or express our anger in a clear and powerful way. More often, we are taught that it is a ‘negative’ emotion from which we should protect ourselves and others. As a result, we struggle to be clear in confrontation: we sit on our feelings, and we ask that others do the same. But when we extinguish our fire out of fear of its destructive potential, we cut ourselves off from the heat of our own passion.
Ferocious Heart is a Heartbeat workshop focusing on the intensity of big emotions: the ones that arise during times of threat or conflict, the ones we are scared of, and the ones we may have misused - or had misused against us. We will explore ways to express big feelings without “acting out” or getting overly identified with them - and we will practice the art of staying grounded when our emotions catch us off guard. We will use Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms practice to explore our feelings as physical energy that we can move through our bodies, learning to stay present for the full range of our emotions – in ourselves as well as in others. When we reclaim the essential power and potency of our emotions, we experience ourselves as more passionate and alive, moving through life with the knowledge that we are capable of backing ourselves up with our whole heart.
